Several kilometres of open water
Room to open the throttle properly, unlike anywhere else within reach of the city.
Lake Lalla Takerkoust sits forty-five minutes south of Marrakech, a reservoir of open water with red banks and the High Atlas rising straight out of the far shore. Not what most people expect to find within an hour of the desert.
Lalla Takerkoust was dammed in the 1930s and now holds several kilometres of open water. It is the one place near Marrakech where you can do something on water at speed, and the setting — bare red shore, blue reservoir, snow on the mountains behind — does most of the work.
Highlights
Room to open the throttle properly, unlike anywhere else within reach of the city.
The range rises straight from the southern shore and is snow-covered into spring.
A briefing on shore then a guide riding with the group — no licence needed.
Ride with a partner or a child old enough, sharing the same jet ski.
Terrace restaurants on the shore serving grilled fish from the reservoir.
The same shore has quad tracks, which makes an easy full day out.
